MODULE 1: Introduction to Computer Networking

This module provides an overview of computer networks — what they are, why they matter, and how they enable communication between devices. Participants will learn basic terminology, network types (LAN, WAN, MAN), and the role of networks in modern IT environments.

MODULE 2: Networking Models — OSI & TCP/IP

Participants will explore the OSI model and TCP/IP stack to understand how data travels through layers from source to destination. The module connects theoretical concepts with real‑world protocol operations and explains how different layers support network communication.

MODULE 3: Network Devices and Media

This module introduces core network components including routers, switches, hubs, and access points. Participants will also learn about physical and wireless media such as copper cabling, fiber optics, and Wi‑Fi, and how these media affect network performance and design.

MODULE 4: IP Addressing and Subnetting

Participants will learn how devices are uniquely identified on networks through IPv4 and IPv6 addressing. This module covers subnetting fundamentals, CIDR notation, and practical techniques for planning and allocating address space.

MODULE 5: Common Network Protocols and Services

This module examines key networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS, DHCP, and FTP, and how they provide essential services over the internet and local networks. Participants will also review secure protocol variants like HTTPS and SSH.

MODULE 6: Wireless Networking and Internet Connectivity

In this module, participants explore wireless networking standards, Wi‑Fi security practices, and how networks connect to the internet. The focus is on understanding both local and wide‑area connectivity in modern environments.

MODULE 7: Network Security Basics

This module introduces essential network security concepts, including firewalls, basic intrusion detection, and common threats. Participants will learn best practices for protecting networks from unauthorized access and attacks.

MODULE 8: Routing, Switching and LAN Fundamentals

Participants will study the basics of routing and switching — how data is forwarded within and between networks. The module highlights VLANs, basic configuration concepts, and how routers and switches support traffic flow in a local area network.

MODULE 9: Network Troubleshooting and Monitoring

The final module teaches systematic troubleshooting approaches and common tools (such as ping, traceroute, and basic monitoring) to diagnose and resolve connectivity issues. Participants learn how to maintain network health and optimise performance.
